Mestlin is a "rural central community"
in the administrative centre "Goldberg-Mildenitz" in the district
Parchim.
Mestlin is situated about 20 kilometres north of
the district town Parchim and about
45 kilometres west of Schwerin. The community Mestlin consists of the villages
Mestlin itself, Ruest, Kadow and
Vimfow. About 1.100 people live here.
Mestlin lies on the crossroads of two important roads. They
are the "district road" from Sternberg to Parchim (leading to the
motorway A 24 Berlin - Hamburg) and the "district road" from Crivitz (federal
highway B 321) to Goldberg (federal highway B 192). The federal highway B 192
connects the town Neubrandenburg with the federal capital Schwerin. You can also
visit Mestlin by coach.
There are a nursery, two schools and some youth clubs in
Mestlin. About 400 students attend the Primary School and the Secondary School
in Mestlin.
The church ist part of our
cultural heritage. It consists of the choir, the nave and the tower. The choir
has a square form and was built of giant stones. The nave is a beautiful high
building with a pointed arch. It had been built of very big bricks. Two pillars
divide the nave into two parts.

The "House of
Culture" (illustration opposite, in the background the church) is an
impressive building. To keep up this house is an obligation, a duty, because it
is a sign for the cultural heritage of the history of the G.D.R. But it is a
burden because of the low financial power of the community. Well, it is very
difficult to keep up this building. The "House of Culture", built from
1954 till 1957, had been the cultural centre of the communiy and the region
until the political changing in 1989/1990.
For some years it had been the home of a disco then, but after 1996 there were
neither trustworthy runners nor money, nor conceptions for saving and using this
house. In May 1997 a club was founded to save this building and stop its
dilapidation. It is a "supporters' and sponsor club Kulturhaus Mestlin
e.V." - Förderverein.
